How to set your goals !

** This is actually a sequel to this post on How to have a goal !

Yes. I am stating out the Goal for 2012 !
Theme for this year is to start small =)

I realize in achieving big dreams we have to start from small dreams. That small little steps which indirectly will help you navigate the entire path of your big dreams.
Most of us always think of what to achieve in a bigger situation...like having your own house, buying your own car, own this and that, go here and there...but how to achieve that if you dont start the little important steps to go there?
Say if you wanna buy a laptop...how are you going to buy a laptop without sufficient saving or money? Of course anyone can say they wanna buy a lappy but how many of us can actually own one without money?
Right?

Thats why we need to be specific. Yes the next key word is spesific. Here is something that I wanna share in successfully achieving your goals :

Yes ! Start your goal setting with SMART !!!!

Direct and very much relevant to those who are setting up their goals. There is no point of setting up goals if you cant achieve. You might as well just call it a dream or a wish.

Specific
Meaning that you have to understand very well what you want...say you want to go travel by this coming December, but where? Thailand? Korea? Where? You have to decide exactly what you want so that when you start navigating you will know where to stop even if you have storms coming right in front of you.

Measurable.
When you have a goal, you must be able to measure how far and how much you have done right? It is like a track record for you to look back and see what other improvements needed for you to achieve the target in time...This tip is like brother and sister with the one down below which is ATTAINABLE. You cant attain it if you cant measure it...see below.

Attainable.
Just remember this when you are setting your goal - If you have a goal, do you it to succeed? Definitely yes right? So how to make it successful? It has to be something that you can grasp. Something that you can do. something that you are up to even if you are at the lowest low and the highest high (no matter what happen). Something that you love to do or sacrifice coz one thing is for sure; achieving goals is not easy as it seems even if you plan to have say a birthday party next month, you will definitely encountered some unforeseen challenges along the way. When you plan a goal you have to see first what you have, what you need to do and how much time left before the day comes before you decide to make it a goal.  If you plan to go to France by next month and you dont have much saving, do you think it is reasonable? Of course not right.
So before deciding whether your goals is worth the plan see first thoroughly with what u have.
Relevant
And of course to double confirm your goal you must remember the purpose of setting it. Like if your goal is to have 3 cars  by the age of 28..do you think it is relevant where you can actually focus on something else? Relevant means is to set a goal that have the fullest benefits to your life. Something that can make you a better person or improve life by having it. Or perhaps it is merely a personal satisfaction of what you have been longing to do. A satisfaction that is worth having..not a satisfaction that will only lead to destruction and waste.

Time Bound
Once you have a goal you need to timeline it. It is like a scale when you are setting your goals. Even if you drive from Penang to KL you will know how far you have come with the signage given along the road right? Same thing here. Without the time line you will never be able to reach there in time..It is more like a schedule for yourself where inside the schedule is full of that little things you need to do to achieve. Also include that mini stops for you to review what you have done so far so that you can fasten up a bit or loosen up where necessary. This is crucial. A time bound with specific instruction.

When you do all these, InsyaALLAH what ever goals you targeted will successfully be yours. Nothing in life worth having comes easy right?
When you put you Intention and mind to it ( Your Nawaitu) You will definitely get there. Everything lies upon what is in your head. If you think you can, you definitely can !

Hope this helps...! Will reveal my goals of 2012 soon!

My Life's Blueprint : How to have a goal, and be sure you achieved it...a lil tips from the humble me =)

I had a brief comment exchange with Ryha Feyzal before I had this post published.

When she first wrote this comment to me saying:
"so inspiring, my dear! proud of you. one of the reason i suka baca blog u ialah i akan dpt motivasi utk achieve my dream bila baca goals di sebelah kiri blog u tu. happy becoming new year!!!"
The first thing that hit me was " Should I share some tips to help ppl achieve their goals?" coz to know a person was inspired by this, it makes me feel so happy coz there is some one who actually appreciate what you have.

Honestly, in my deepest heart I never published things for recognition, but it's for sharing...coz we dont get to experience a lot of things at one time, we grew by learning from our mistakes and other people's mistakes too..so it is important to share.

Anyway I wanna share some tips on how I make sure I achieved some of my goals,.... if not many =)

I'm sure  you have read loaddddsss of books on goal achievements, heard tips from counselors, friends or parents perhaps but have you get at least one in head? Frankly, I had the same problem too when I first started

BUT what changed me is not their advices or book's tips, it's my need to have something.
See the word NEED?

You dont go making goals because you wanna have goals too,
You dont list things you want to achieve just because you feel empty or hopeless.
You dont dream flying high up the sky because you want to be in the crowd.
No you dont !

You make goals because you need them.
For example...you feel hungry, you NEED to eat...so doesnt that drives you to eat?
Yes it does.

You have a car with a key, but can u drive a car without fuel even if you have the key? Definitely not. So in this case, fuel act as the motivation that drives you through it, smoothly...it's so important that without it, plans and goals are nothing but just a wish.

So once you have your target aimed which is your goal, now the next thing you need is a plan. When you are all excited to achieve goal (with that lil drive of motivation definitely) you can plan the route easily. It is like an automatic system that connects to each other.

The problem with most people is that they have goal, but lack of motivation so they cant plan and when there is no plan...the goal becomes a dream that will never come true.

So remember this three !

A goal to aim
A need to drive it through and
A plan to succeed.

All three are like brothers/sisters....can't leave without each other. You must have the urgency to achieve then only you will be able to fulfill all your dreams and visions.

I am posting this based on my personal experience. Might work with you, and might not. But if you are reading this, all you need to do is reflect back on the reasons why you cant achieve and see where are the areas that you need to improve. Just let me know if you have any problem or want to exchange ideas with me...I am all ear to listen to you sweetheart!

I will write next about ' How to plan your route to achieve your goals !!!' More on how to plan the journey. Maybe not in detail, probably briefly.
Feel free to comment and exchange with me yea.

Have a blast weekend and Happy New Year...(hope it is in time for you to read this and start listing your new goals for 2012)

My Life's Blueprint : Finding about who I truly am; in and out

I stumbled upon a great quiz, personality quiz which I found very very reliable. It is in fact pretty easy too. Not gonna tell you how it works coz I think you should try it for yourself !

Stumble upon this website last year...only today I have the heart to take the Advance Personality Quiz =d

So do you wanna know what it tells me? Of who I really Am?
Browse down and take your time to read through:

****************************************************************************

FARAH DIYANA - A SEEKER !

Spirit

You're a Seeker. A good listener with a heart of gold you're someone your friends know they can rely on for support and advice in good times and bad. You're kind and generous and helping others comes naturally. A sensitive soul with an expressive nature you tend to be quite a romantic at heart. Sometimes you love nothing more than escaping into your very own dreamworld. Spontaneous new experiences can be really inspiring to you and you like exploring your creative side from time to time. Seems like you're in a really good place right now feeling happy playful and full of energy. It's great when everything in life seems to flow. Your natural tendency to look on the bright side definitely helps! When it comes to improving things in your life why would you say no to extra cash It would be great to treat the family whenever you feel like it. The trick is to be disciplined about budgeting. If you stay on top of your finances you'll feel a lot more secure and probably save a bit too. It's important to remember to tap into your inner strength and to believe in yourself. Take on new challenges and stay stimulated so you remain enthusiastic and inspired by life. As a Seeker you get excited by new ideas. You like adventure and original experiences that stimulate and challenge your status quo. Stay inspired with a rich mix of activities and find time for hobbies that allow you to explore your creative side. Learn to recognize when you need variety in your life and then incorporate it into your daily plans. There's no better way to feel centered and balanced than to spend some time out in the fresh air. You understand that a change of scenery can reinvigorate you and remind you of what matters most in the world. Remember it's not a luxury but a necessity so allow yourself that quiet time as often as you can.

Relationship
When it comes to love you're quite traditional. You believe in making strong commitments. `Forever` isn't a scary word to you! As a Rock Steady it's important to you that your relationship feels secure. You tend to be realistic about what makes a lifelong partnership work and understand the value of forging a love based on friendship and respect. You believe that a true partnership is about sharing responsibility and being able to count on one another through whatever life throws at you. Creating a true sense of honesty and support means your love will grow as the years go by.

My Relationship tips:

So you're a Rock Steady but what tips can we give for keeping the magic alive in your relationship
  1. Rekindle the romance. Get up with the lark and meet at a local market to buy beautiful flowers and feast on a yummy breakfast
  2. Do something different. Take a cocktail-making class together at a local bar. It'll be lots of fun with plenty of tasting to be done!
  3. Take it easy. Imagine you're on holiday in your own city. Do the fun things tourists would do and capture it all on film with a disposable camera.
  4. Let your inhibitions go. If it rains grab the chance to run wild in the puddles and have lots of fun getting soaked to the skin and then warming up afterwards!
Money
You're an adventurer at heart and love to see new places when you get the chance. Expanding your horizons can really help to put things into perspective. The true mark of success for you is a happy home. It is the main focus of your life and the center of all your aspirations. You're happiest when you feel settled and comfortable. True fulfillment for you is in having strong loving relationships with family and friends. If they're healthy and happy that's all that matters to you.

Health
You're a real morning person. You enjoy getting up and seizing the day. You believe in a balanced approach to living a healthy lifestyle. It's all about moderation. You enjoy exercise and eating healthily but you're not going to let it take over and run your life. You manage to fit physical activity around your everyday activities and your happy-go-lucky attitude means you won't stress about it too much. You know that a couple of missed gym sessions won't make a huge difference to how you feel overall. It's definitely not worth worrying about that's for sure.

Food
You like things simple and straightforward and food is no exception. Rather than fiddle around with various recipes and spices you're more likely to head for the grill. Smiple honest food... plus it combines meat vegetables and a bit of starch - clearly a balanced diet!

Home
If you were given the opportunity to live your dream life chances are you'd feel more at home settled in a cute country cottage than living it up in a mansion. Your low-key attitude means you'd prefer to get away from the stresses of city life and take it easy perhaps spending your time in a colorful garden. Fresh air birds chirping and home-grown veggies for dinner...what's not to like

Entertainment
You're an outdoorsy person happiest when you can get out into the fresh air and explore what the countryside has to offer. You can't beat a few quiet hours in the peace of nature to be alone with your thoughts. Perfect for feeling refreshed and rejuvenated!

Style
Your pretty feminine style exudes low-key elegance and charm. You don't need to be brash or falling off a pair of stilettos to get noticed. Being at ease and feeling confident in yourself works wonders. You like to keep things real and are practical too so you're just as comfortable getting groceries as checking out the latest designer looks.

Travel
You're inquisitive open-minded and interested in history. You love to discover new things and experience new places. For you the tourist trail is best avoided. After all it's the hidden gems that make traveling so exciting! You love to thoroughly immerse yourself in culture so chances are you'll end up in a museum or gallery at some point on your trip.

*****************************************************************

I am not trying to post this as to show off or fulfill my self-indulgence but I am here to share that each and everyone of us ought to find out who you really are. It's important coz it affects your decisions in life.
This quiz really opens my vocabulary about who I truly am....sometimes it's not about  you not knowing who you are, but it's often about not knowing how to interpret yourself when you are in a situation. Most of the time we say that it's indescribable or speechless etc but actually deep down inside we do not know how to translate those situation into words/action when it happens that's why most of us become stress or emotionally disturbed coz they do not know what they are dealing with.

I am indeed a very traditional type of person when it comes to love, hopeless romantic too. On the other hand, I also love adventure things/stuff as much as I like to be quiet and  focus. These two things contradict with each other if we think about it separately...but these difference I believe makes me a solid type of person. Two traits that compliment each other.

As I read through I realized that sometimes in order to find yourself, you have to allow others to discover with you...you cannot go through that journey alone, or be left alone coz you might get lost. Even in Islam ,we are taught to always learn with a teacher, never learn yourself ; An Idiom saying i It takes two to tango' also express that things cannot happen without more than one person.

Maybe at some point it doesnt seem to be directly related to each other as I have mentioned above, but the bottom line is...You have to be with other people in order to discover yourself and inner side of you.

You cant do it alone.

A seeker in  town perhaps =))

"Semua Kebaikan adalah Sedekah" (Hadis Riwayat Bukhari)

Hari Jumaat,
Hari yang mulia
Mari kita sama-sama beringat,
Membuat kebaikan dan pahala.....

As-Salam buat semua rakan-rakan,

Maafla cabuk jek camera ni... nk cepat snap pki handphone camera jek =D  Buku ni masuk handbag pun lepas hehehe =D

8 Tips to better love : What I've learned from relationships

I didn't know exactly how it felt when to have found the right person or love but I am truly blessed because I didn't have to go through many hassle to find the right person like having so many boyfriends etc. He is indeed my first and only boyfriend.

In fact, the way I met my other half was certainly not 'love at first sight'. We were friends before we became an item. It's been four years now, and I am glad that my other half and I have come this far, and we are counting the days until our big day...InsyaALLAH.

Since that fateful day when our hearts collided and everything began falling into place, I have learned so much - about him, about myself, and about love. I've had my fair share of relationships so I am here to share some of my experience on this issue; what I have found to know and things I have learned.  By no means do we think we're perfect couple but  if we are able to turn our ups and downs  to become a better person, why cant you? This might be useful not just for married couples but for those who just started their relationship. I hope it helps in one way or another.

1.  Good Communication is the foundation of any relationship; both talking and listening part.

A good couple always talks their heart out. Be it a good time or bad time. That's why they last long. It is in fact a good advice given to me by a dear friend when I was having problems with my other half in the first few months of our relationship. I always have problems with certain things that he's doing and I just dont know how to convey or express it to him (which i ended up telling my friends seeking for advice), thinking that it might hurt him if I spilled it out to his face. Telling him off what bothers you sometimes need patience and deeper understanding. We must always try to express our thoughts (good ones and bad ones) and feelings with care and in ways that the other person understands. Sometimes even if you say it's an A, the other person might perceive as a B. So getting your other half to understand really depends on how you address the issue. Even when I was still new with my other half, we do have communication issues but how did we do it? We discuss and talk often about things that matters in our lives, express feelings not just during the good times but also the bad times; eventually it becomes a habit. If we don't talk for a day, it's awkward. Good communication involves welcoming each other's perspectives and keep your communication from being one-sided. I am a person that demands certain things especially when it involves work or commitment and I always said to him ' I want this, I want it that way, please dont do this and please do this'. It's all about what I want. I hardly listen to him and he hardly responds; only to find out later that what I did have totally shut him off (that day when we had the chat; he spilled it out the problem after being forced). Good communication is not about talking a lot with no direction but talking whats necessary and matters between the two of you. I came to realize that it is also equally important to respect your other half's opinion even if you don't always agree with it. Listening to your other half is as important as being heard.

2.  Trust and being truthful is the key in relationship.

Yes, mark my word. If you want to earn trust you have to be truthful to each other. Even a simplest lie can becomes a big bom if you didn't do anything about it cause remember 'Your actions always affect others'.
One more thing, once you start telling a little lie, you will eventually settle with a big lie and if becomes habit, disaster will wait for you at the end of the tunnel. So why need to lie when you can actually tell him or her straight? If you dont like him or her doing certain things, tell him or her off. If  something makes you feel guilty, then share it with your other half. Dont' keep it to yourself and lie. Honesty is indeed the best policy, especially in relationships. Good intentions mean a lot, but they shouldn't blind you from seeing your other half's point of view.  Another thing which I have learned about relationship that it is very crucial  to 'say what you mean, and mean what you say'. Dont ever make your other half feels duped by telling sweet white lies because its totally unfair. If she or he asks for opinions then tell straight, he/she has to know it so that she/he knows where she/he standing.

3. Love should inspire you, not giving you headaches.

This is indeed one of the signs to know where your relationship is heading. Love has it's ability to transform not only the way we see the world, but the way we see ourselves. Small fights and arguments are part of the process in getting to know your other half, but if being with him or her constantly makes you feel down or depressed; giving you so many negativity, then something is wrong somewhere and you guys need to solve it. No matter what you love to do, the right person will be supportive of it. They don't have to do it too, they don't even have to understand it sometimes, but they will always loving and respectfully support you. They will bring you up as high as they can and never will they try to push you down.

4. Gifts and Surprises; things that your other half would definitely turn on.

I came from family that is full of celebration. We celebrate each other's birthday or any other special occasions together as family  (especially my mum) so these have become a tradition that is essentials in my life. Compared to my other half, he comes from a totally different family up-bringing, tradition and not so much into celebrations of birthdays and etc.I still remember his expression the first time I bought him, his birthday present; he was shocked, mortified and totally speechless. I have to say something before he was able to put his words. Gift giving habits are often rooted in family tradition,  but having someone who is not in that line, it helps us to look at each other's pasts.

Having said that, he too is not really good at giving gifts and presents but knowing how he was before, I came to an understanding that he needs time to adapt and the best part is, he became even better each year passing. To me, a present can represent a whole  lot more than a celebration. It shows how well we think our other half knows,  cares for and appreciates us; the effort taken to make it special no matter how big or small; cheap or expensive the gifts are. Good gifts is most importantly something your other half wants not something you wish that person would like - or that you want for yourself. Sometimes the best gifts like your time dont cost a thing. There's this saying ' Giving is worth more than the Gift' proven to be totally right. Its the effort you put in giving, not how much you spend. You don't need to be hopelessly devoted. Just be sincere.

5. Our 'Reset Button' works !
During our first year, we always have this fight, endless fight with the same issue over and over again. Why did it happen? First we didn't resolve the issue but instead we put it aside (with no communication and understanding at that moment; I almost think that its not going to work; us being together) thinking that the time will come when we need to discuss on the issue again. This also happened because we did not adapt to the first few values I have mentioned above. I am not the kind of a person who likes to take arguments for hours, but seeing the issues repeating itself just killing me bit by bit and thats why I am so pissed.

With all those mini fights which later turned to be a big fight happening so much, he said to me 'this got to end somewhere' and so we did.  We actually took the time to resolve the issues concerning us and of course with a little crying and babbling (yeah who else?) we came to a few solutions so that it wont happen again. We spent like the 4 hours speaking our hearts out with no lie and grudge. We also came to a conclusion of this 'Reset Button'.  He introduced this concept just to make sure that we are oke after any fight. By saying reset button, we are able to let go of things that we have issues  before (after solving it) with no hard feelings; in other words it's solved and back to happy mood.  Reset Button also allows us to think back what we did to each other ( like Muhasabah diri) , the happy moments we had before and that we are grateful to have each other's arms for support.

Frankly, after having this 'reset button' we both feel so much at ease now because we have poured out what we wanted to say to each other without any hesitation. Sometimes it's kind of funny looking back at how it started =D So now everytime we fight. we quickly think of the happy moment we have spent before...it really can cool you down; in a split second. We are not that stupid to give up on things like this where we can actually achieve more.
6. A little gratitude and compliments to spice up; talk pretty to your half

Good communications shouldn't be a priority only when something goes wrong but you should also communicate to make each other feel good. For instance, my other half and I always compliment each other- a lot. I use nicknames to make him smile or at times tease him (in a good way of course)  like  ' My handsome, or Mr. Gorgeous Prince' etc to show him how hot or great person I think he is. I mean if you  don't call your spouse or other half  he is handsome ( probably he's not that handsome compared to Tom Cruise), who will? Right? Personally, I like it when he compliments on my new jeans, or when I don a fancy shawl makes me feel appreciated. Those words although it's a little, so powerful to me. Even a 'thank you' can express love.

I mean 'Who on earth doesn't love compliments?'. A simplest gratitude or compliment can mean so much to one's person's life and couples too need to have this thing going. Life can be so monotonous or  routine and when these things ended up as a routine what else can you say? Life becomes boring ! Hence, it is important for you to make sure you venture new things together...maybe not always but occasionally. Create something new, or find an interest or adventure that both of you like.  This way you are able to have fun while enjoying what both of you love to do. As for my other half and I, we love photo-taking. On Friday night we will make a simple plan for the weekend like going to some place for shooting or sometimes we just hang around in our own house and have like hours chatting online. It sounds ridiculous since we are only a block away but we love doing this so why not? Sometime we don't plan, we just go with the flow. So it totally depends on how you want to spend the time. Its the quality that we are looking for, not quantity.

At times when you just dont have anything to talk about, just do some check ins; just to make sure both of you are in good conditions. For example' Hey Honey, I'm checking in. Is everything ok? Are you happy? What's going on?'. These kind of questions you need to ask if you feel that something is not right. It can also be way to start a conversation or chat.  'Check-in' is a term or phrase used as a form of opportunity to get things off your chest early, instead of letting them bottle up and funny thing is a couple like Giuliana and Bill Rancic exercise the same thing too. They form the word 'check-in'. What my other half and I used and still do is exactly the same, only we don't have the term before. Now we have.

7. Love requires effort, but it should never seem too hard.

Like most who have been in love,  it starts off easy and carefree until reality sets in and then there you find that there are just two people who are alike in some ways and different in others and who have to find ways to interact with and love one another in spite of their differences. But, I've learned, the work you have to do for the one you love shouldn't be a complete drain on you, making you question or wonder if all of the stress and strain is worth it. No, the kind of work you do for love should come naturally and should be worth it.  I too have doubts about love, afraid if I fall for the wrong person and etc but I truly believe in this advice given to me before when I was confused; if it's really love, you will learn to let go of the past. I can tell by now that whatever the past hold on to me before, I am able to let go and start anew.

I've discovered that (from experiences of other people like friends and relatives), if you're hurt more than you're happy, you're not with the right one. In relationship it is not just about making the other half or spouse happy; not about you happy but it is about 'US' happy; you and me.

8. Ask for help, if you need one !

Guys especially, they are the kind where they think they can handle most of the things in life. Not to mention, their super high ego can sometime turn us women off the hook ( beyond control). As a woman, I understand really well why man like my other half hardly ask for help. I understand that he doesnt really need help that much, all he needs is support. I read a book once before that men like to give and receive suggestions about how to fix a problem not complains and nagging (just show how much we women love to babble)  where as women prefer to give and receive emotional support. But as I go along in the relationship, sometimes being there is enough for him. I dont need to give him anything, just be there when he needs me so that he can regain his strength to do whatever that he needs to, like being there when he's presenting his works, or meeting a friend, or when he has big problem in the office I would just sit there next to him without uttering a single word; to let him calm and if he needs to talk then I am there right next to him.  At times, you also learn on how you can help the other half by asking him/her how's he/she feeling.  Don't  be afraid to ask for support and help because really,  when  you love someone, there are no burdens (thanks to my other half for the saying)

Sometimes, he needs his space and so do I but most of the time it didnt happen quite well because neither of us are able to express it to each other. What I've learned is that never give your other half's mind wander by giving mixed signal, false indication and etc. If you need space tell each other and work things out. No point avoiding and make the silent call because you will not only make the problem bigger, but you are destroying the trust that you have built together; tarnish the relationship with these attitudes will not make you go anywhere.

Of course to share the whole life story is a never ending thing...but these points which I have laid down for you, are the key points that you need to know just to make sure everything's oke. Each person's problem can totally differ from another in so many ways, but as long as you hold on to the key value you will be able to adapt and use it according to your situation.

I really hope it helps.

Love Always,

My Life's Blueprint - Introduction

This is a segment involves a lot of tips and personal experience I have encountered in relationships, work and almost anything that related to life so it can be pretty long and lengthy as I go along and elaborate on each topic.

It is almost like a form of discussions where each post is open for comments and ideas  to be shared with others. This segment is also personally collected and created by me as a form of a reminder to my young-self. The tips and stories presented here is taken from the internet, some books I have read before and also my very own experience. I love to relate things I have read to my own experience. This way I am able to understand better with deeper appreciation.

I decided to name the segment ' Life's Blueprint' for a few reasons but the main reason is:

Since I am an architecture student blueprint has become a term that is very synonym with the industry.  In the industry the term means type of paper-based reproduction usually of a technical drawing, documenting an architecture or an engineering design ~ Wikipedia. So technically the architects will go for blueprints before the actual works done on site. In my case, blueprint is a form of documenting inspiring notes and facts of life. Something that is permanent and has the value to be reminisced; something for each and everyone of us to ponder. In short, it is a foundation to make your life better while sharing stories and experiences with others.

So I hope you enjoy this lengthy segment...do leave some comments here so that I can upgrade it from time to time =D
